Kickball has always made for some great photographs—and there are new ones being taken every week! Here are some from the field and other social events, courtesy Mike Rotenberg, John Maynard, Garry Tsaconas & Andrew Ennals. Got more? Let us know!

History

2007 marks our fourth season. Take a trip back through the history of Toronto Kickball!

2004

Inspired by Brooklyn’s kickball league, a small but dedicated group took to Bickford Park on Monday nights and launched Toronto Kickball’s inaugural season. Play featured a much larger ball than the standard one currently used, and we had to compete with an equally regular soccer game using the same area. Nevertheless, the seeds of future kickball greatness were sown.

2005

After getting a decent turnout the first two weeks, attendance dropped off dramatically for the next two months, putting kickball’s very existence in jeopardy. But in mid-summer, new faces began to arrive, increasing steadily with each week as the word spread and hangovers lifted. By the end of the summer, a tight-knit core of players emerged, short shorts became de rigueur, and Sneaky Dee’s and Bistro 422 were the site of many a late-night post-game session. This season also marked the first at Alexandra Park and the introduction of the smaller, yellow Tachikara ball (a gift from Brooklyn).

2006

Turnout nearly tripled, meaning that all three fields at Alexandra Park would be used simultaneously. League play was introduced, with Les Enfants Terrible winning the first-ever Toronto Kickball Championship. We also sent a delegation of nearly two dozen to the Brooklyn Invitational tournament on July 1st where we competed against the hosts, Atlanta, Providence, Washington, D.C. and Hoboken; we also hosted a motley crew from Buffalo late in the season. The year wound up with an afternoon of games on Toronto Island, followed by an extremely festive awards BBQ.
